South Island, cloud increasing in the west, with patchy drizzle turning to rain in Fiordland, mainly fine elsewhere, but high cloud with scattered late rain in the far south.

On Wednesday, showers clearing and fine spells increasing, southwesterlies dying away. Mainly fine on Thursday, with northwesterlies developing. Cloudy periods on Friday, with winds turning southerly then dying away.
